#LoveAlwaysWins - Human Rights at the Olympics

Today we watched this very powerful video in class. Our class has had many discussions about different families and how it is natural and perfectly okay to love anyone, regardless of gender. The discussion focused around human rights and and the fact that we in Canada are fortunate to be able to love anyone we want but in other places in the world, people don't have those rights.

We looked at it like this: What if Mrs. Taylor said she was buying Pizza for the whole class, we would all be excited! But what if she then said that anyone wearing red couldn't have any. How would that make the people wearing red feel? How would that make the people who do get pizza feel?

The discussion around this was amazing! We then compared it to the girls in the video. Why would it be okay for her to kiss her partner if it was a man, but not if it was a woman?

What a powerful video, an amazing discussion from Grade 2s, and overall an important message to take home! Enjoy this video with your family!
